ERP is not enough: an AI agent delivering answers in minutes

ERP and AI agents delivering answers in minutes — Uvid

The most dangerous manufacturing number is green, not red.

A quarter shows profit. The director is happy. Then project analysis reveals three of five projects lose money, subsidised by the other two.

Without ERP, that analysis never happens: project cost structure exists only as intuition. Margins are guessed and the green number goes unquestioned.

With ERP, the data exists: every cost is posted, every order recorded and project margins available. ERP holds the truth.

The question is how long it takes to reach it.

The answer is in ERP. Getting there is slow.

Take a familiar question: why is Project X over budget?

ERP has the answer, but someone must compare estimates and actuals, filter costs, check late invoices and draw conclusions. An experienced analyst needs an afternoon. A manager using ERP occasionally needs longer, if they find the time.

Such analyses happen monthly, while decisions happen daily.

The problem is access speed, not missing data. Information arriving in three weeks is worth less than the same information today.

Generic AI does not solve this. It lacks your data.

AI agents have become a constant talking point. But generic AI, knowing nothing of your operations, adds work instead of shortening the path to an answer:

  • You feed it each piece of information manually.
  • You extract data manually without guaranteed security.
  • Too many subjects confuse the conversation; it never stays focused on your data.

The result sounds clever but answers no real business question.

The solution: an analysis specialist within your ERP

Imagine an analyst familiar with every project, supplier and season. Ask a question and they know where to look.

It works like a manager with a team of specialists.

Our agent uses that model. An orchestrator receives a question, consults ERP and accounting specialists and returns one answer. The same principle applies to production, purchasing, warehouse, construction, quality, HR and sales. Each specialist has domain knowledge and works with your data.

How it works in practice

What are the costs of Project X?

BI tools have delivered reports well for twenty years. An agent goes further, giving a figure and explaining it.

€387,400, 8% above estimate. The overrun is in outsourced processing; the invoice has only just arrived.

An afternoon’s analysis becomes a minute. Follow-up questions continue because the agent understands the context behind the number.

Three things an agent does faster and better than manual analysis:

Fast access to information in large datasets. Answers buried in ERP analytics are retrieved immediately.

Understanding contributing factors. The agent breaks down cost deviations into outsourced processing, late invoices, material price changes and overtime, showing causes rather than a single figure.

Hidden trends. It identifies patterns across months, such as late suppliers or recurring seasonal overruns, before a person has time to spot them, and offers practical process advice.

Without foundations, it is all hype

This is the point most AI discussions miss.

An AI agent is only as valuable as the data beneath it.

The architecture has three layers: ERP as the solid transaction database and system of record; secure integration making data available; and an agent layer learning supplier, seasonal and delay patterns.

Even the best agent cannot compensate for poor foundations. First an organised ERP, then intelligence above it. The order matters.

People still decide. The agent removes data digging and provides better evidence, without taking responsibility away from you.

Start with one agent, then grow.

Begin with one, usually finance where value appears quickly. Add purchasing, production, warehouse, quality, construction or HR once it works.

Modular, like ERP itself. Grow at a pace that pays off.

When, how much and how

The first agents are planned for the final quarter of 2026. They use local models, with pricing starting at around €100 monthly, well below the cost of an employee doing the same work more slowly.

We are developing this with FERIT Osijek (Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology), bringing academic research alongside practical development. Partner financing options are also available.

It draws on over 250 ERP implementations and twenty years working with Croatian manufacturing, construction and food companies. We know where costs hide because we have investigated them on site.

ERP remains the foundation. The agent shortens the route to an answer.

ERP knows why a project is losing money from the first posted cost. With an agent, you get the answer in a minute, while a decision still matters.

For an example using your data, book a no-obligation conversation. We will demonstrate an agent analysing operational data as you ask questions.
