ERP does not solve chaos — it exposes it

Do not rush into ERP implementation. Lately I have seen failed or poor projects at companies seeking our help, and I wonder how much money is wasted on misguided implementations.

Bad software? No. Expectations and preparation.

Decision-makers expect software to solve problems on its own. No ERP, however advanced, fixes bad processes. Remember: ERP does not solve chaos; it exposes it.

Before buying software, ask:

  • How do our processes work today?
  • What specific problem causes business losses? For example, ordering production materials too late or missing customer delivery deadlines.
  • Look closely: where does the problem arise — communication, planning or something else?
  • Who makes decisions in that process?
  • Finally, what exactly will software do for us?

Knowing what you want to achieve before buying is a major step forward. You need not be an ERP expert, but you must know your process problems. If you cannot explain them on one page, you are probably not ready for implementation.
